Fall Red Snapper Season by David Rainer
“It’s a rare occurrence indeed when we’re able to give something that we didn’t think we were going to be able to give,” said Shipp, head of Marine Sciences at the University of South Alabama. “As bad as the oil spill was, it did enable us to have a fall snapper season. I think most people were in general agreement. Some people preferred the entire month of October and some wanted just weekends. I think part of that is to see how the weekend opening works. In the future, we may want to do that on a seasonal basis to extend a season over several more months.

3 Day deep sea fishing Trip from Orange Beach August 25, 26, 27, 2010
Orange Beach, Al. - This is the 7th year in a row that we have fished with these guys on a long range style 3 day fishing trip. In the years past we have always went offshore to specifically target sport fishing opportunities like Yellow fin Tuna and Wahoo but with some of the offshore waters closed we went in search of new horizons. We left Orange Beach Marina at 6;30 am and started of trying to catch a little live bait for this long fishing trip. We finally found the bait we were seeking and took off over to the open federal waters that have not been fished much. We started off catching a few Bee-liners and Triggers.

4 hour Trolling trip August 21, 2010
Orange Beach, Al. - We donated this deep sea fishing trip to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society to help raise money for awareness. Even with everything that has happened this year we still felt that it was something that we had to do. I was lucky enough to have some guys on the boat for an afternoon trip and a good time was on the forecast for them!

The "Intimidator" is a 65X19 ft SportfishermanThere are many species of fish to be caught off the Alabama gulf coast all year long. Springtime saltwater sport fishing is highlighted by Cobia, King and Spanish Mackerel, Amberjack, Triggerfish, and a variety of Snappers. In the summer and fall months, the focus seems to be more on the short family trips for mackerel or the longer multi-day trips to the offshore rigs for Yellow Fin and Black Fin, Dolphin, Wahoo, Marlin and Swordfish. In the late fall and winter, the emphasis is more on trolling for Redfish and Mackerel on the short trips. Offshore during this time, the weather may be a bit fickle but the offshore fishing is at its peak. The one type of fishing that is available year round, on the longer day trips and overnighters, is the deep-dropping for Golden Tilefish, Long tail bass, Yellow-edge Grouper, Snowy Grouper, and other deepwater fish in the 600 to 1500 foot range. Not to worry, for this type of fishing we provide the latest in electronic assisted reels to aide our anglers in pulling these unique fish out of extreme depths.

The Intimidator is located at the prestigious Orange Beach Marina just a few minutes away from some of the best saltwater sport fishing in the entire Gulf of Mexico. For the avid saltwater angler it serves as an outlet for all types of fishing adventures. If you’re not a salty veteran fisherman, it offers an upscale, laid back private marina atmosphere that is not commercialized with the typical charter boat marina setting. The few working charter boats on the grounds are located at the marina by invitation only with a majority of the marina populated with privately owned yachts. In addition to the distinguished fleet, the marina also provides a specialized dock store, as well as, Calypso Joe’s and the Palms Restaurants.

The Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill

August 29, 2010

Orange Beach / Gulf Shores, Al – We are really excited about the upcoming fall Red Snapper season for the Alabama Gulf Coast and the positive impacts this will bring our local economy. The phone is ringing and the days are booking on up but we still have dates open for you to come down and enjoy a deep sea fishing charter trip. There are deals to be had with the condos around town so make sure to call around and see what you can find.

We are now fishing every week and the fishing just seems to get better and better. This past week we made a long range style 3 day fishing trip and had a wonderful time catching Amberjacks, Triggerfish, Scamp, Yellow edge Grouper, Tilefish, and some whopper Wahoo see more on our blog. The Federal waters are slowly opening back up and hopefully we will have our historic fishing grounds by then and by all accounts we will. Just remember that we are here to serve you and will always be glad to discuss any fishing trip that you have in mind.

August 23, 2010

Orange Beach / Gulf Shores, Al – The 2010 Red Snapper season will reopen on October 1 and for a change it will only be open on Friday, Saturday and Sundays until November 22, 2010. This is great news for all the local business and the industry as a whole. We are looking forward to seeing you guys down here soon. The beaches are clean and the booms are gone from the Back Bay and inland water ways. Things are getting back to normal in swift fashion!

August 16, 2010

Orange Beach / Gulf Shores, Al – At 6 am this morning all of the state waters along our part of the Alabama gulf coast will reopen for harvest of all fisheries that are in season.  This is especially good news for all of you wanting to do the 4 hour and 6 hour deep sea fishing charters.    The King and Spanish mackerel bite has really been good as well and the Vermillion Snapper and Triggerfish.

Late last week NOAA reopened waters for us to fish the longer trips on, over to the southeast of our area and this will make for some good bottom fishing, offshore big game trolling and deep dropping.  The rigs are still off-limits but the areas seem to be opening on up pretty quick after the oil spill.  The Red Snapper season will most likely reopen on October 1st and will make for some great fishing!  Call now to get your dates!

August 5, 2010

Orange Beach / Gulf Shores, Al – We are now fishing in the state waters of Florida and Alabama for King mackerel, Spanish mackerel, Triggerfish, Snapper, Grouper and Sharks.  Although, Alabama state water are still closed to harvest Florida waters are open to keep what you catch within the parameters of the law.  The fishing is great, the weather has been slick calm and catch has been pretty good too!  With 4 hour trips starting at $800.00 for up to 10 people we have a trip in your price range.  Our state waters should reopen within days and the federal waters should not be too much longer, we hope.  There is a lot of talk about a fall Red Snapper season but there is not a definite answer as of yet.  Once more info is made available I will pass it along to you.

July 17, 2010

Orange Beach, Al. – At this time we are still dealing with the impact of the oil spill along our coastal community of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. The local governments in Baldwin County are heavily engaged in the clean up plans with booms and surface skimmers.

The harbor in Orange Beach is now open and we are ready to start fishing again this week.  Everything is all catch and release and we must stay in state waters of Alabama and Florida but, it is a start.  We are going to mainly focus on the 4 and 6 hour trolling and some bottom fishing. So come on down and let’s go!

Depending on the landings of the current Red Snapper season along the Gulf Coast we could potentially have a fall season.   I do not have any plans to run my boat in the vessel of opportunity program that a lot of my fellow fisherman have done. I will continue my work with the University of West Florida for their on going studies that we signed up for back in 2008.

Thanks
Johnny Greene
